Counseling with Emily Ann Peterson
The heart of counseling sessions with me: therapy isn't about "fixing" you or forcing you to feel old wounds, again, and again. Therapy is an invitation not to feel so alone anymore, to connect more deeply with yourself and others.
Therapy is a space for building bravery, so you have it later.
Because life happens and, boy howdy, does it help to have those bravery muscles ready when!
Together, we'll begin with your goals and shape counseling around what matters most to you. Sessions are conducted online through Greenlake Wellness Group's HIPAA compliant, ADA-accessible, telehealth platform. Sessions include:
Collaboration: you bring your lived experience; I bring tools, training, and presence
Safety & Respect: a confidential, judgment-free space where you can show up fully
Flexibility: we'll adapt as your needs shift; some weeks may be reflective, others more skill-building or action-oriented
Creativity: if it feels supportive, we may incorporate writing, art or metaphor to unlock new perspectives
Freddie: my little blind cat is known to make brief cameos!

Neuroaffirming & body-liberating: to honor the wisdom of your mind and body as they are.
Anti-perfectionist & person-centered: your values, goals, and lived experiences are prioritized
Creative & compassionate: humor, metaphor, and sometimes music, art, or writing can help explore and express what spoken words can't capture
Evidence-based: drawing from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative and Polyvagal Theories, attachment-based healing, and ecofeminist and intersectional perspectives
Relevant Education & Certifications: Masters in Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University ('26), Masters in Business Administration from University of Wyoming, Certified Trauma Support Specialist from Arizona Trauma Institute, Certified Trauma & Resilience Life Coach from International Trauma Institute, Psychological First Aid from Johns Hopkins University

I’m transparent about my experiences with chronic illness, career halting diagnoses, religious trauma, sexual violence, and disordered eating. There are also particular joys, tragedies, and absurdities that came with growing up undiagnosed neurodivergent, coming of age in a racist South, living overseas with culture shock, and navigating the music industry as a woman. I’m also deeply shaped by the queer, anti-racist, body-liberationist, and neurodivergent communities I’ve been part of. All of this explains why I welcome heretics, whistle-blowers, late bloomers, those who speak truth to power, or who’ve “never quite fit the mold.”
I hold a BBA from Texas Tech University, an MBA from the University of Wyoming, and am completing my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I’ve been a TEDx speaker, published Bare Naked Bravery: How to Be Creatively Courageous, and worked as a consultant with entrepreneurs, startups, and Fortune 500 companies.
