"It is possible for every human to have talent - it is my goal to give each student in the studio the greatest chance possible to take advantage of this potential."
What is the Suzuki Method of Teaching?
Founded by Shinichi Suzuki who said, "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed... The potential of every child is unlimited... Main concern for parents should be to bring up children as noble human beings... Children can play very well. We must try to make them splendid in mind and heart also."
Emphasis is on the following...- Developing character not merely musicians
- Parent involvement - the ultimate "home teachers"
- Early beginnings - as early as age 3, but it's never too late to start
- Listening - mimics learning a language, (ex: a child hears before speaking)
- Repetition of repertoire - not just discarding, but using each piece in a new way
- Encouragement - sincere and specific praise
- Learning with other students - possible group lessons
- Performances - frequently, individually, and in groups
- Every person - Each student can learn anything at their own speed in a positive environment. Let's make that happen!

Her Students Say...
“Great with kids... Emily has been working with my 10 year old step daughter for about a year. She has a deep understanding of the cello and how the body interacts with it to make music. The particular thing that is the best about Emily is that she is very good at adapting the lesson to the needs of the student. It is this teaching technique that allows the student to have the fullest understanding of music and the cello.” - John, a student’s parent
“Excellent for older students with no experience... I was pretty sure there was no teacher willing to take a 44 year old man with no musical background, but Emily did even hesitate to tell me she would be delighted to be my teacher. I highly recommend Emily as a patient, positive, encouraging cello teacher.” - Greg
