Last month my band, Goldfinch, played a FANtastic house show at the Melton's house in Wenatchee, WA. He pulled me aside before the performance to tell me he tucked a poem about the cello into my cello case. So wonderful! Well, I was busy getting ready for the show, so I didn't have a chance to read it until we were packing up for the night...It brought me to tears. Mainly, because it was the perfect artistic touch to the end of a beautifully hosted evening of music. We were so welcomed by Fred and his family that the idea of receiving another beautiful gift (of poetry) was too much for me.
The Cello - by Fred Melton
When bow burdens string
You sing of unspeakable sorrow
And silence the noise surrounding my soul.
Thanks Fred & Elizabeth Melton. Your hospitality was astounding. Your poetry, the cherry on top!

Emily! I just found this! What a wonderful and kind thing to do. I wish I'd Google'd you earlier.
I hope you're well. We miss you and Goldfinch, but I listen to you guys several times a week on my iPod.
Drop me a line when you get the chance. Elizabeth and I would love to hear from you.
PS: you can put "writer" behind my name and Google some more of my stuff.
Thanks for the sweet note! Glad you got in touch!
Goldfinch is doing well, we're writing new material and recording it in June. Hopefully all will go well and the new album will be out soon after - which means we'll be promptly on our way to Wenatchee again! Would love to see y'all in whatever context that means.
That show at your house was a highlight for all of us in the band, thank you again. Hope all is well with you and your family - Tell them we said "hi!"
